Cork Monogram

I needed to do some homework for Pinstrosity today and ended up making a cork monogram for our wall.
I used this as my Pinspiration:
http://winerefrigeratornow.com/blog/wine-cork-letter/
And this is what I came up with:

I won't post up all the details here of how I made it, but you can see the whole process on Pinstrosity

Organizing Scrap Fabric

On Pinstrosity we've challenged everyone to actually do the pins they have pinned and then post them and link them up to our challenge. I'm a firm believer in not asking someone else to do something that you yourself are not willing to do (this works great with the youth I work with at church). I'll link this up in the Pinstrosity post, but if any of my posts are drawn out when we draw the random winner, we'll redraw a name (I can't win my own competition, that'd be weird). Now that my grandfather's funeral is past and life is starting to get back to normal, I have started getting my pins done. I had started this one back in December:

My Pinspiration:
Sunday School {for sewing} Pretty Scrap Jars | i like orange.
I couldn't actually find the original source for this. Well..sorta. I find what it says is the orignal source (a blog called I Like Orange Too) but it opens up a different site when you try to go to that blog. The closest I found to a real site with this photo was this: http://recycledcrafts.craftgossip.com/how-to-make-recycled-jar-fabric-scrap-organizers/2011/06/24/ (but they give credit to I Like Orange Too as well).

...but I didn't get all my scraps sorted and the jars done until just this past week. I loved that idea though when I saw it. How handy is that to have your scraps sorted by color so you don't have to dig through the whole scrap bag to find what you're looking for!

This has already come in handy too! I'm working on a curtain project with the scraps and this made it so easy to find what I needed. Hurrah for great Pinterest ideas that actually work!

Under the Stars Dance

If you follow Pinstrosity, you get a preview of a part of Tuesday's post...

Our ward was in charge of the stake youth dance last night. We decided to do a dress-up/formal dance and to have the theme be under the stars. We wanted the kids to really be under the stars, so we strung lights across the cultural hall, and hung 200+ stars from the strands. Luckily my friend Jani has a Cricut and a Silhouette machine and we were able to churn out all the white stars in about 2-3 hours (using an entire pack of cardstock in the process). We then hung metallic stars (I love the after Christmas sales on wrapping paper) all on the walls. The Christmas lights gave enough light that we didn't have to turn on any other lights in the room. It gave such a fun effect. We found a disco ball in one of the closets, but we didn't have a latter tall enough to hang it from the ceiling, so we just hung it on the stage. Chris in our ward made homemade rootbeer and had chips and veggies and cookies for the kids to eat. All in all it was a pretty good success (when we could finally get the kids to start dancing...they are all so afraid of looking dumb that they won't let themselves have fun).

Orange Lamp Revamp

I'm slowly putting together our spare bedroom and getting it decorated. It's not high on my priority list and I don't want to make a whole lot for it as we don't know if we're staying here or if we'll be moving somewhere for school (and consequently moving back into a small apartment). But it is fun to spiff it up a little bit. I had an idea yesterday to add a little more color and spunk to the room and I already had everything I needed (I love it when that happens).

I took one of the cream colored lamps we have...
washed it up and taped a bag over the top...

and then spray painted the base orange and the lamp shade white!

I love how cheery it is and how it adds to our orange and blue (not coral and aqua...orange and blue).

I just gave the Pinstrosity blog a slight makeover. I guess it wasn't really a make over as I gave it an up do...either way...here's the new banner:
